Improved design of the original Model 3, Smith & Wesson's first top-break, automatic ejection revolver produced from 1878 to 1912. Top of barrel rib is marked with the two line address and patent dates: "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24. 65. JULY 11. 65. / AUG 24. 69. APR 20. 75 FEB 20. & DEC 18. 1877 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871." The left side plate is period inscribed "Chas C Allen U.S.A. / By the Citizens of / Springfield Mo / July 1880". This model features blade front and notched rear sights. Six shot fluted cylinder with automatic ejector. Matching serial number on the butt, cylinder and barrel latch. Fitted with checkered walnut grips.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with scattered traces of the original nickel finish in the protected areas. Overall there are a few scattered minor dings. The grips are fair, with some pressure marks and a large chip on the right panel, the checkering is smooth. The markings and inscription are clear and crisp. The action is very good.
