Our Assessment: Popularized by Dirty Harry movies, the N-frame long barrel S&W revolvers had already been on the shelf in America for a few decades; after the movie, the Model 29 was revered by target shooters and law enforcement alike. The 629 is the stainless steel version and has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. This is no ordinary model 629. This is The .44 Magna Classic, a 7 1/2″ barreled, full-lug, accurized variant of which only 3,000 were made in 1990. While it is marked 1 of 3000, there were only 1200 629 Magna Classic revolvers made, the other 1800 were blued Model 29 Magna Classic revolvers that comprise the 3000 Magna Classic production total. This is a wonderful opportunity to get your hands on a rare 629!
