Our Assessment: This grouping is simply too cool to put into words. If you own a bush aircraft or are planning a trip to Alaska, no better assembly of gear could be had to protect you and your loved ones in an emergency situation. The gear is pretty much unused, we do not see much evidence of the revolver being fired often outside of the factory. Please see our pictures and good luck.

Action Type: 5-Shot, Double / Single Action, Swing-Out Fluted Cylinder Hand ejector Revolver.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked "500 S&W MAGNUM", the right is marked "SMITH & WeSSON", the left side of the frame has a S&W monogram (found again on the flanks of the grip) and "L" with arrow for frame lock indication, the right is marked with the four line Marcas Registradas and "S&W 500eS" on the side plate. The yoke cut is marked with the serial and model number.

Barrel Length: The barrel is 2 3/4″ with a solid rib and underlug.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a black serrated ramp blade that is pinned to a rise in the barrel’s solid rib; the top of the rib is serrated and matte finished for glare reduction. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched and white outlined leaf in a micrometer-click adjustable base.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one piece orange S&W monogram Hogue Monogrip black rubber stock that completely covers the grip frame, providing flank pebbling and finger grooves. The butt of the grip has a heavy lanyard loop. The stock shows only faint marks with no major damages, rating in about excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a thin drag line, there are a few scattered light marks, none of which draw attention until close review, the pistol looks to have been stored well for most of its life. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about excellent Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces light side to side play with no measurable back play in full lockup of all 5 chambers. The double action trigger pull is smooth, single action is crisp. We did not fire this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The pistol comes with a large Vortex brand pressure sealed orange survival case, with a waterproofing gasket and foam inner liners. The lid’s foam has two cutouts for the unopened survival blankets and Bear Attacks of the Century, from Smith & Wesson; two keys for the pistol’s internal frame lock system, a whistle, compass, mirror, rope saw, test cartridge, wax paper, factory lock, keys, owner’s manual, group of factory paperwork, sheet of wax paper and Morgan A. Taylor Smith & Wesson extreme Ops folding blade knife / its nylon pouch, are all provided; the book and wax paper have some permanent creases, the other items are in like new condition. The knife blade is 4 1/2″, OAL is 10. The blade is part serrated with a spear tip point, it is VeRY heavy duty and the cutting edge is factory sharp. The blade is Titanium 440 Steel, it is marked "HAMMeR FORGeD / SURGICAL CHINA / CK42BS".
