Smith & Wesson Model 1899 Army-Navy DA revolver, .38 cal., 6” barrel, blue finish, checkered wood grips, factory marked on butt strap with U.S.N., naval anchor, .38 DA, No. 37, C.A.B. and with a “B” inside a triangle;#5489 on front grips strap, bottom of barrel and back of cylinder along with an “I” inside a star under the barrel and on the back of the cylinder; “56” is also stamped on the backstrap, possibly a rack number. Only1,000 of this U.S. Naval variation were manufactured within a naval serial number range of 1 to 1,000 and in the S&W serial number range of 5001-6000; this Model was followed by the 1902 U.S.N. series (seeprevious lot 558). This gun is in overall very good to fine condition showing the majority of its original blue finish with scattered wear, scratches and mars from carry and storage; good bore, crisp action, sharpmarkings, very good grips with some old mars from carry and storage; an exceedingly hard variation to find in any condition and this is a really nice honest one! From the Dr. John Hall Collection. Est.: $900-$1,800.
