Manufactured from 1907 to 1915, this is an original Smith and Wesson First Model 44 Hand Ejector Target Revolver with the very desirable "Triple Lock" mechanism. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address and patent markings flanked by Maltese crosses, with "44 S&W SPECIAL CTG." marked on the left side and correctly no markings on the right side. It has the standard "S&W" trade mark logo on the right side plate. The early features are the five screw frame, the shrouded ejector housing, the smooth grip straps, square butt, thin trigger with the smooth face, fixed round blade front sight, and of course the "Triple Lock " mechanism. It has matching serial numbers on the back of the cylinder, inside the barrel shroud and the bottom of the butt. The crane and frame cutout are also both matching "4494" assembly numbers. Fitted with floral scroll engraved two piece silver grips with a gold long horn steer on the right side and a cowboy on a bucking horse on the left.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 90%, slightly faded original blue finish with some muzzle wear and minor spotting on the barrel and overall some edge wear. The left side of the frame shows a patch of pitting and there are a few overall scattered minor scratches. The back strap is thinning and there is some minor spotting on both grip straps. There is a bright drag line on the cylinder. Most of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The attractive grips are slightly oversize and remain very fine with areas darkening with age. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
