Smith & Wesson 2nd model Schofield revolver, blued finish, cartouche wood grips, .45 caliber, serial #5844. The pistol shows a smooth patina finish with considerable original blue mixed in the brown, 30-50%would be reasonable. The edges are sharp, the markings are crisp, there is some light pitting on the cylinder. The latch and spring show traces of case hardening. The triggerguard has gone mostly to bright. There is an “E” and “P” inspection mark on the bottom of the barrel lug. The butt shows a clear “U.S.”. The grips have been lightly cleaned with steel wool but are good and show a trace of their cartouche on the left side. The action is good, the cylinder number is 3709 and shows a “W” and “P” inspection- possibly a field replacement. The bore is very good plus to near fine. Est: $3,750 - $5,750
