Smith & Wesson 2nd model American .44 caliber single action revolver with 8” barrel showing original to the period deluxe New York scroll engraving in the style of the L.D. Nimschke with raised carved pearl Mexican snake and Eagle grips, serial number 26998. This revolver is ornately engraved in best quality Germanic scrolls that are finely executed with checkerboard accents and vines with ropes which are all Nimschke motifs. This revolver retains approximately 50% to 70%plus original nickel and the areas where the nickel has lifted have been lightly cleaned and there is some heavy pitting on the cylinder and some moderate to slightly heavy pitting in a few areas on the barrel. The heavy pitting on thecylinder occurs between two chambers and there is a small amount of restoration in that area. The barrel address is sharp and crisp. The raised carved pearl grips are extra deluxe and high relief in carving and fit very well. The gripsshow a small loss at the toe and just some minor normal aging. The hammer and trigger guard show considerable original case hardening. The trigger shows considerable original blue as does the latch and the assembly number on the barrel and latch
