This was Smith & Wesson's first double action 38 caliber revolver, manufactured circa 1880 with a total production of about 4,000. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two-line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, cylinder, barrel latch and top strap. Pinned blade front, latch notch rear sights, distinctive straight cut side plate, nickel finish with blue trigger guard and casehardened hammer and trigger, and fitted with checkered hard rubber S&W grips. Complete with an original maroon hinged lid box with correct end label, and directions label on the inside of the lid.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 98% original nickel finish with some minor muzzle wear. The trigger guard retains 90% plus original bright blue finish. The hammer retains almost all of the original bright case colors and the trigger retains case colors on the sides and a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. The grips are excellent. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is good.
