Revolver, Double-action, 6-rd cylinder. Brazilian Contract revolver. Built on the large square butt N frame. 5 1/2" round barrel. Large 1/10' front sight blade, Notch rear sight. Pinned barrel. Uses half-moon clips. Serrated trigger. Blued metal finish, with case-hardened trigger, and hammer. Lanyard ring. Matched serial numbers. 2-line S&W address/patent dates. on the top of the barrel. "S&W D.A. 45" on left side of barrel. Small S&W trademark on left side of frame. "Made in USA" on the right side of frame. (All Correct for Brazilian Contract guns) Brazilian Crest, 1937 date on side plate. with 25,000 Model 1917's were made for the Brazilian Government . This revolver was most likely shipped in the first batch in 1938. A large quantity were imported back to the U.S. in 1990. Importer marks on the underside of the barrel over serial number, which appears to be IA Co. Saco, CA. Action is crisp/tight. Bore, and cylinder/ chambers appear excellent, but dirty. Grips are good, but show wear. Blued metal finish is about 95%, with wear to the edges. Also there is some scratches/scuffs, but nothing serious. Drag lines on the cylinder. Backstrap faded. NRA Condition Good/very good. Modern Firearm. C&R Eligible.
