This is an excellent set of hard soled base and hide top beaded and quilled moccasins from the Sioux Native American Indians dating to the Indian Wars era of circa 1870-1880’s. This wonderful set of 19th Century moccasins have an Indian tanned hide top showing a lower border of period correct glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern along with a linear pattern of porcupine quill red ocher mineral pigment dyed quillwork at the top of the foot. The beadwork includes colors of chalk white, cobalt and greasy yellow. The set shows hard soled parfleche rawhide bases with nice original patina. The set shows sinew sewing and partially shows the hide ties with the original hide tongue and medium height ankle. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 11”L soles by 4”W with a 3.5”H ankle.
