This item is a Sioux Native American Indian, polychrome parfleche envelope. The piece is based on a tanned hide parfleche, painted with polychrome mineral dye, and adorned with long cut tanned hide fringe, and trade seed bead accents, including; Cheyenne pink, chalk white, and cobalt blue. The envelope is in good condition, and is believed to originate from the first quarter of the 20th c. There is however some free hanging black trade cloth that lines the top, and sides of the envelope. The envelope measures approximately 10 1/2" wide, and 10 1/4" tall, without the length of fringe.
