Wonderful miniature pictorial tepee, on supple, Native tanned hide. Colorful and artfully executed drawings depict 9 armed warriors in full regalia, with split-horn bonnets, full headdresses and wrapped heads. Armed with rifles and knives, they stand with arms raised for battle. A sharp-toothed animal face hovers over the combatants, along with 2 bows with arrows. Blue pigment spots encircle the top and lead to the red-painted smoke flaps. Deer hide has hair remaining in protected areas. 25" tall by 42" wide spread. Circa last quarter 19th century. Professionally mounted with minimal stitching to linen covered board that measures 30” x 46”.

Provenance: From the Estate of Thomas W. Lorimer.
