Offered for bidding in this lot is an exceptional example of a Sioux Native American Indian Deer Hide, hand painted with fantastic, and vibrant colors, in the Ledger Style. The painting portrays the commencement of a great battle on the top, and a stampede of buffalo on the bottom. Centrally located on the piece is a Sioux Pin-Wheel, with four ceremonial calumets symmetrically striking through the center. On the reverse side of the painting is a supple deer hide. This fine pictorial has been in the possession of the previous collector for over 40 years. The hide is signed on the bottom right corner. Overall, this rare piece is in good condition, with excellent color, only downside being the two hind legs of the deer hide are torn, but still attached. The hide measures approximately 49 1/2" wide, and 55" long from the outstretched front leg to the hind.
