The lot features an excellent pair of fully top quilled and beaded moccasins from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. These authentic Indian wars era moccasins are of a large men's size showing an over 11 inch long sole made of Great American Bison Buffalo parfleche rawhide that is sinew sewn and has a nice worn patina from age and use. The moccasins are constructed of Indian tanned hide with exceptional porcupine quilled patten that shows all mineral pigment polychrome dyed finish in red, blue and yellow. The quillwork also is shown on the tongue. The moccasins show a beaded bottom edge in chalk white and red with a stripe of chalk white and cobalt on the rear of the ankle along with chalk white on the top of the tongue. The medium height ankle shows a green trade cloth-bordered cuff. Fully quilled camp. Provenance: These were found to be an authentic set of Sioux 19th Century Moccasins by the experts at March in Montana and sold in their 2019 sale. Each moccasins measures 11.25"L by 4"H x 4.25"W.
