The lot features an excellent fully beaded skullcracker war club from the Sioux Native American Indian dating to the 19th Century. The war club shows a wood haft handle which is completely covered in a trade clothe canvas which is then adorned with traditional geometric pattern period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork is in chalk white, red white hearts, cobalt, greasy yellow and medium green. At the top of the skull cracker stone headed war club shows a double cone pointed hand carved head that shows the original scrapped finish and hand carved groove at which the parfleche sinew sewn wrap secures the head to the haft. The beadwork and structure of the club appears to be sinew parfleche sewn. At the base of the club is a later added drop of black horsehair which is wrapped in parfleche. Provenance: From a large American Indian and Western collection in Iowa. Measures overall 25.5”L with an additional 16”L drop of horsehair (for a total length of 41.5”L. The head is 4.5”L x 2.5”W x 2.5”W.
