Sioux Fully Beaded Horse Martingale c. 1950-60's
Offered for sale is this fully beaded parade horse martingale from the Sioux Native American Indians that dates to circa 1950’s to 1960’s. The martingale shows a tanned blonde hide/leather which is covered in a geometric effigy pattern in glass trade pony beads. The beadwork shows a chalk white background with border of sky padre blue, corn yellow, medium green and red with horse head and neck effigies in red and yellow accented by the same previously mentioned colors along with black and orange. The piece shows a traditional martingale with wide straps running down each side being tied at the top in leather which flow into a rectangular large beaded panel and show a fancy edge at the base. The base shows hide/leather tied with brass hawk trade bells (which have an amazing ring). The piece was made by the same Sioux individual as the previous parade saddle and next lot horse headstall. The piece arrived from the Hungry Horse, Montana American Indian collection (the parade saddle comes with an old collection / gallery tag which stated, “’01 $4,200 1950’s Vintage Sioux Beaded Parade Saddle – 39-X” which was original listed with this piece, but is not included as the three pieces are separated for your collecting convenience). The piece is in very good condition with little to no bead loss and supple leather. Measures overall 39”L by 17.25”W.
