The lot features an excellent Sioux Native American Indian beaded war shirt from the 20th Century. The Warrior shirt shows an Indian tanned hide construction with early red trade clothe edging and a rawhide sinew sewing. The shirt shows various geometric traditional fully beaded strips along with front, back, and both arms. The beadwork is done in fine glass trade seed beads showing chalk white, corn yellow, cobalt blue, semi-transparent medium green, and red colors. The shirt is decorated in the same stylings of the 19th Century examples having sinew wrapped ends of long Buffalo and Human Hair surrounded by long cut Indian tanned hide fringe, ceremonial white fur Ermine. The entire hide surface shows a rich dark red mineral pigment red dye. The front of the shirt shows a trapezoidal shaped beaded drop with a powerful Chief’s like symbol and long hair pipe bone beads. The shirt is in the same design and styling of the pants, headdress, coup staff, moccasins, and breechclout (with each being sold separately). These were all displayed on the Indian mannequin sold after these pieces. The war shirt measures approximately 64" wide and 51" long. The entire ensemble was purchased for over $12,500 by the current Paradise Valley Livingston, Montana private Early American Artifact Collection. Excellent quality and construction, truly a work of art.
