This is an excellent Sioux Native American Indian beaded Chief or Warrior’s Headdress from the 20th Century. The headdress is a very sacred piece of the Warrior or Chief’s ensemble and would have only been worn by a respected elder of the tribe. The piece shows very good condition and excellent construction showing a felt trade clothe like lining with glass trade pony beadwork and a wonderful Turkey feather crown. The headdress head band shows a geometric design with chalk white, black, sky padre blue, medium green, corn yellow, and red with two beaded round medallions accenting each side having red/yellow trade ribbons and feathers. The features shows a dyed Turkey feather that has had the softer ruffled feathers adhered to the lower section giving the headdress a fuller and more impressive design. The tips of each feather have a round spot of white fur along with a tufted of ruffled feathers. The headdress is in the same design and styling of the pants, war shirt, coup staff, moccasins, and breechclout (with each being sold separately). These were all displayed on the Indian mannequin sold after these pieces. The headdress measures approximately 31" long, 28" wide, and 21" tall. The entire ensemble was purchased for over $12,500 by the current Paradise Valley Livingston, Montana private Early American Artifact Collection.
