The lot features a Sioux Buffalo hide and parfleche beaded knife sheath and tacked old trade knife. The sheath has a parfleche rawhide manufacture which is wrapped in Buffalo Indian tanned hide. The front is covered in geometric beadwork pattern in glass trade beads in colors of white, green, corn yellow, semi-transparent rose. A belt tie hide strap is attached at the top bottom and the hide / beadwork appears to be sinew sewn. Included is an old clip point wide thick trade knife which has a darker hammered and grinded finish with two-piece hardwood grip scales secured with two rivets and adorned with square shank solid brass old trade tacks in a zig-zag diagonal and cross pattern. The hilt of the knife also is wrapped with old brass wire or telegraph wire with glue setting it and red painted finish. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Tom Hardy of Indianapolis, Indiana and thought to be a 19th Century example by the previous owner. The piece has the appearance and manufacture of other 19th Century examples, but exact age is unknown. Overall, the piece displays beautifully. The knife measures 11”L and the sheath is 10”L by 3”W.
