The lot features an excellent hide and trade clothe beaded large doll from the Sioux Native American Indians dating to circa 1890-1900’s. The child’s doll shows an old calico floral trade clothe construction with dark blue and red stroud trade clothe wool dress with Indian tanned hide beaded collar. The beadwork is all glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern being sinew sewn. The piece also shows cotton trade thread sewing. The beadwork includes greasy yellow, cobalt, red white hearts, sky padre blue and chalk white. The hide shows nice fringe and green ocher dyed. The arms have a red ocher coloring as well and the Indian tanned hide head with red coloring on the face, seed bead facial features, real human or horse hair and beaded earrings. The doll also has a pony glass trade beaded necklace with brass bell along with a saddle parfleche belt with parfleche rawhide beaded pip bag. The doll has a remnant of a trade blanket on its back and beaded hide moccasins. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana.
