The 1951 Centennial badge: The plaque on the machine reads "A Century of Sewing Service 1851–1951." This emblem was created by Singer to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The company was founded in 1851 after Isaac Singer patented his first sewing machine. To ensure they met the high demand for the centennial machines, Singer used machines they already had in their vast inventory and applied the special badge. The plaque indicates the machine was sold during the commemorative year, but the serial number is the definitive marker of its original manufacturing date. This serial number corresponds to 1948.
