Simeon North Model 1826 Flintlock Navy Pistol

Estimate: $1600 - 2500
This is an example of one of only 3,000 flintlock pistols manufactured by Simeon North for the U.S. Navy between 1826 and 1829 and the last model of U.S. martial pistol manufactured by North. The lock plate is marked "U.S./S. NORTH" below the brass flash pan and dated "1827" at the rear of the lock. The top of the barrel is stamped "US/ET" over a inset "P" proof. The pistol has the Navy belt hook on the left side of the stock, swivel ramrod with button head, brass front sight blade, and oval rear sight on the barrel tang. The pistol is iron mounted and is fitted with a walnut stock with an "EJ" oval cartouche on the left flat. Most of these pistols were converted to percussion. The pistol appears to be in the original flintlock configuration. Notes from consignor state that the pistol was x-rayed by Peabody Testing Lab in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 10/31/75 and shows no welding or reconstruction.
