Dated 1805, the exact purpose of this mechanism is unknown, possibly a gun lock made for a cannon or an experimental lock. Measuring 8" overall, the base plate is marked "S. NORTH/ BERLIN CON./ 1805", with the frizzen spring doubling as the hammer spring, and a top mounted trigger with a hole in the center for running a line. The flash pan is 3" wide, extending off to the left with a hinged brass cover. At the rear is a short shank with threaded end and a thumb nut.
