Silver mounted French fowling piece signed Cassanard A Nante on the lock showing conversion to percussion and reduction of the barrel and stock. This Fowler descended in the family of Tobias Lear Council from the United States to Algiers during the Barbary Coast Wars which was where the Marine Corps coined its phrase, “The Halls of Tripoli”. The Barbary Coast wars were America’s first incursion into world affairs in the Middle East which was caused by pirates who were harassing American shipping and being aided by Middle East Sultans (sound familiar?). The owners plaque on the wrist is engraved with the initials F.G. (By tradition man who it was presented from) and the silver mounts are in high relief and remain in good condition. The Fowler is in untouched as found out of the attic condition and was consigned by heirs to a prominent New York auction gallery. A copy of research and documentation will be supplied to the prospective buyers. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
