Manufactured circa 1857-1860, this revolver has the scarce "bayonet" style barrel latch found only on the Model 1 1st Issue, 2nd Type revolvers. Smith & Wesson only manufactured approximately 900 of these Model 1, 1st Issue, 2nd Type revolvers. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the one line address and the patent dates are marked around the cylinder. The matching serial number is marked on the butt, front face of the cylinder, back of the barrel lug and stamped inside each grip panel. Blade front and notch rear sights, silver plated brass frame with blue remaining parts and fitted with smooth rosewood grips.

Condition: Very good. The barrel and ejector rod retain 40% original cleaned silver with scattered speckles of solvent wear. The cylinder has a smooth mottled grayish patina. The frame retains 50% original silver plating with an aged patina on the exposed brass. The grips are excellent with almost all of the original varnish remaining and showing some minor wear on the lower edges and some minor handling marks. The action is fine. A must for any serious antique Smith & Wesson collector.
