Offered for bidding in this lot is an antique silver janbiya dagger. These daggers typically show a short curved double-edged blade, with a medial ridge, and a heavily decorated scabbard - this knife is no exception. The janbiya dagger is an extremely traditional piece, worn by men residing in Yemen, India, and Saudi Arabia - The level of decoration often tells the status of the man carrying it. The dagger shows fair condition, aesthetically it shows heavy patina, physically, the hilt of the knife has separated from the handle. The handle and scabbard appear to be silver but remain untested. When inserted into the scabbard the knife measures 13 1/4" long, 8 1/4" wide, and 1 3/4" tick at the tip of the scabbard.
