Signed Yazzie Binishtaa Navajo Pottery Collection
Offered in this lot are two fine pieces of Navajo American Indian pottery signed by the artists. The first piece is by Keith Yazzie Jay (1965). Keith Yazzie Jay grew up in the four-corners area of the Navajo Nation and now resides in Cortez, CO. In high school, Jay started honing his talent as a sculptor. By the mid-1990's, he had developed his own style. Keith Yazzie Jay has won numerous awards in art shows throughout the United States. This water pitcher has an interesting shape with a hole in the center and a multi tone color Keith was known for. The pitcher measures 7 1/2" x 5" x 4" and is signed on the bottom and dated 9/98. The next item is a small vase by Julia Blackhorse Binishtaa. This vase is decorated with a Kokopelli, a person on horseback, elk, a spiral of life, Healer hand, and others. The white clay has been given a red wash that highlights the drawings. The vase measures 3" tall and 9" around at its widest point. The vase is signed on the bottom. Both of these items are in very good condition, with no signs of damage.
