Shin Shinto period wakasashi or medium-size Japanese handmade samurai sword in storage case signed on tang in unusual grass style of writing that is undecipherable even to several experts. The tang does say clearlythat it was made in the style of Masamuni and the blade shows his style bumpy temper line and with great quality forging to the steel and a tight wood grain pattern. There is considerable writing on the scabbard and tang which experts have not been able to translate other then Masamuni name. The blade is in excellent condition with full temper line and no flaws remaining in a excellent state of Japanese polish. The blade is thick and wide. The blade measures nearly 19 ½” across the cutting edge. With old silk case. Out of a local estate. It would be hard to improve upon the quality of this blade as it is truly excellent in workmanship.
