Shell Gasoline Porcelain Enamel Advertisement Sign
For your consideration is this circular Shell Gasoline porcelain enamel sign marked on the sign 1957. Shell was formed in 1907 through the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company of the Netherlands and The "Shell" Transport and Trading Company of the United Kingdom. The combined company rapidly became the leading competitor of the American Standard Oil and by 1920 Shell was the largest producer of oil in the world. The porcelain sign shows a black background with red and yellow flames on the left and right side. In the middle of the sign it shows a yellow gas pump in the middle and a the iconic yellow Shell logo. Front and center is a woman in blue shorts and top holding the pump nossle and leaning on the yellow gas pump. The Shell logo reads, "Gasoline Shell" in red lettering. In small black lettering on the bottom right of the Shell logo, it reads, "Made In U.S.A. - 57" showing it was made in 1957. The sign shows four holes on the top, bottom, left and right of the sign for easy mounting. The sign shows good condition for its vintage age with the only missing paint being around the mounting holes. The sign measures a diameter of 11 5/8". While the sign is marked 1957, the age is unknown.
