Sharps model 1874 sporting rifle, with slightly heavy octagon barrel, blue and case-hardened finish, .45 caliber, 2-7/8” marked cartridge. Serial #160061. Matching barrel to action, the buttstock is an oldperiod replacement, possibly by Western frontier gunsmith and shows an iron patchbox, large St. Louis type iron buttplate and large sling swivel. The gun is factory mounted with Sharps double-set triggers andshows its original factory forend. The barrel shows 80% old reblued finish that is starting to plum and tone. The frame shows 30-50% case hardening drifting to silvery grey with some light erosion and pinprickpitting. The period-associated buttstock shows a large chip at the top edge where the wood meets the frame, and is otherwise good with some dings and mars and evidence of being dropped on the toe where it bent thebuttplate. The barrel shows a large brass post and hand-made base in the original dovetail. The barrel measures 30”, the rear sight is an old addition, the rear sight dovetail has been reduced. There is an extra
