Sharps model 1851 sporting rifle, .36 caliber, 28” octagon barrel, with brass patchbox and mounts, original tang sight and barrel sights, serial #1408. Only approx. 41 model 1851 Sharps made in .36 caliber and only approx. 400 total produced. Refer Flayderman 5F-004. The rifle remains in very good original condition showing original blue drifting to brown on barrel. Sharp edges, crisp markings, the frame shows 30-50% case hardening within patina. The markings are sharp on the tape primer door. The stock shows a couple of slight cracks and a small piece of wood spliced in beneath the wood lock ago and there has been an application of old clear varnish of the 19th century type. Stocks are generally good to very good overall. The original barrel sight and hooded front sight are retained. The action is good, the bore is very good. One of the earliest sharps to go West with pioneers and hard to find. Est: $8,000 - $12,000
