Sharps New Model 1863 Metallic Cartridge Conversion Carbine

Following the Civil War the U.S. Government decided to convert many percussion military arms to metallic cartridge to be used in the Indian Wars. This rifle is chambered for the 50-70 round and has the 3 groove barrel. The top of the barrel is marked "NEW MODEL 1863" (faint) behind the sight. Ladder rear sight and block front sight with blade. The lock is marked with the Sharps and Lawrence patent dates and the upper left side of the receiver is marked with the Sharps patent date. Inspector "JLP" markings are present. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and arsenal replacement straight grip stock.

Fair. The carbine has mostly a mottled brown patina overall. The sanded and refinished stock is fair with initials carved on the buttstock and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
