Following the Civil War the U.S. Government decided to convert many percussion military arms to metallic cartridge to be used in the Indian Wars. This rifle is chambered for the 50-70 round and has the 3 groove barrel. The top of the barrel is marked "NEW MODEL 1863" behind the sight. Lawrence patent rear sight and block front sight with blade. The lock is marked with the Sharps and Lawrence patent dates and the upper left side of the receiver is marked with the Sharps patent date. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and arsenal replacement straight grip stock with the "DFC" ribbon cartouche on the left side and a clear boxed cartouche on the left wrist.

Condition: Very good plus as Arsenal refurbished with scattered blue finish on the barrel mixed with a smooth brown patina. The remaining surfaces have a smooth mottled dark patina. The wood is fine with a couple of small minor gouges on the stock and overall some minor pressure dents and dings. The action is excellent.
