Sharps New Model 1859 Berdan-type sharpshooter single shot percussion rifle, .52 cal., 30” round barrel marked “New Model 1859”, wood stocks, iron patchbox, period leather sling, #55154. This gun is in overall good + condition showing a brown patina on the barrel with silver toning to the case hardened receiver and lock plate; overall good bore and markings; double set triggers are working at time of description, threebarrel bands, wood stocks are overall good with wear and scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage; interesting small pearl disc inlaid in right side of butt stock in front of the patchbox. This gun is inthe serial number range of rifles issue to Col. Hiram Berdan’s 1st and 2nd Regiments of U.S. Sharpshooters; a highly sought after Sharps variation that should be further researched as the Berdan Sharps issued circa1862 were limited to a purchase of only approx. 2,000 rifles.
