Sharps Model 1874 Heavy Barreled Buffalo Rifle
Fitted with a heavy barrel marked "SHARPS RIFLE MANUFG. CO. / HARTFORD. CONN." ahead of the rear sight and "CALIBRE 50" at the breech. "C. SHARPS PAT/ SEPT. 12th 1848" is on the left side of the receiver and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom barrel flat, under the forearm, and on the upper tang. (Under the forearm the barrel retains nearly all of the original blue!) The rifle is equipped with a German silver blade front sight, an adjustable folding rear sight without graduation markings and marked "R.S. LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB 15TH 1859" on the base, mid range tang sight and double set triggers. Mounted with a smooth forearm with a pewter forend cap and straight grip stock with an iron buttplate. The weight of the rifle is just shy of 12 pounds.

Condition: Very good plus with the barrel retaining 25% of the original blue finish concentrated under the forearm, while the balance has a smooth brown patina. There are strong original case colors on the protected areas of the lever and lock plate with the balance having a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is very good with a small sliver absent on the upper, rear, right side of the forearm, a small minor gouge on the comb and overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
