Sharps Meachum type conversion from carbine to sporting rifle, marked .40 2-5/8” caliber on barrel on heavy octagon barrel with old-reliable trademark and Bridgeport address. Serial #C40867. The barrel measures30” and is of heavy weight measuring nearly 1-1/8” across the flats at the muzzle. The barrel is serial numbered under the forend matching to the tang. The stocks are worn, checkering at the wrist almost worn off. Thegun is equipped with period double-set triggers. The lock plate and action show some erosion and pinprick pitting. The lockplate is missing some interior parts. The hammer is a replacement. The tang screw and one framescrew also missing. The bore is fair, there is some erosion in the chamber. The front sight is an interesting large blade made from antler. A big heavy .40 caliber that would restore nicely with the addition of somesmall parts and was a project gun for Sterling Fenn.
