Manufactured 1862 to 1865, this is one of about 500 Model Army Type carbines made, approximately 200 were ordered by the U.S. Army. These carbines are chambered in 52 rimfire and a few Army Type carbines were made experimentally in other calibers. The left side of the frame is marked "SHARPS/PATENT/1859", the right side is marked "SHARPS/&/HANKINS/PHILADA" and the serial number is marked on the upper tang. Both sides of the barrel have a screw positioned just behind the rear sight. Blade front and adjustable rear sights and mounted with a straight grip stock with a sling swivel and brass buttplate.

Condition: Refinished. The barrel retains an area of blue finish around the rear sight and remaining iron surfaces retain much of the blue finish with the overall balance a smooth brown-gray patina. There is some very minor pitting. The buttplate has been polished. The slightly undersized stock has a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
