Sharps 1874 business-model rifle, .45-70 caliber, double-set triggers, serial number on tang only partial legible: 535, as it has been drilled for tang sight. The “Old Reliable” marked barrel is marked 161330 onforend. These late Sharps were often shipped West and 161,000 is at the tail-end of production where they may have been assembling parts from the frontier. The rifle shows traces of original blue and slighttraces of case hardening within a light grey patina. The markings on barrel are sharp and the barrel matches the action well and has been together a long while. The buttstock and forend are heavily weathered, the grain isopening, the buttplate was removed long ago and shows wear and is altered in the area of the comb. The action is good, bore very good. An interesting looking frontier Sharps, the type that probably did kill buffalo- andinteresting to note: the buttplate shows large well-spliced in repair and slight scorching in the area of the buttplate from being next to a camp-fire.
