Second model Allin conversion, .50-70 caliber, showing 1864-dated Springfield lock, 1866 date with American eagle on breech, in fine to excellent as-issued condition. The metal surfaces show their original arsenalbright, just some beginning toning, the breech block shows its original colors, the hammer shows most of its case hardening, as does the lock, just starting to tone. The stock is excellent with razor sharpcartouches including “ESA” (Allin’s cartouche). The ramrod channel shows no nicks or mars. The edges of the stock are razor sharp. The action is crisp, the interior shows virtually no use. An original cleaningrod is retained, the bore shows no firing. Several sophisticated and old-time collectors have viewed this Allin and consider it the best they’ve seen. An 9.8 to 9.9 on 1-10 scale. An antique cannot be expected to be in better condition as it looks made yesterday. Only a few miniscule bumps in the stock, and some slight beginning age on the buttplate. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
