Scottish basket hilt back sword circa 1760s of the type carried by Dragoon’s during the French and Indian war era. This sword measures 41” overall with a 34 ¼” blade. The blade and hilt show an un-cleaned and matching patina (The pommel nut has never been disturbed) with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting and a few nicks at the edge from battle. The leather grip is good with some small losses and normal aging and its original twisted wire wrap. The hilt shows goodquality piercing and forging and this is one of the most untouched and original 18th-century Scottish basket hilts we have catalogued in a long while. Many Scottish regiments served in The American Colonies and fought in the Revolutionarywar as well as the French and Indian war. Est.: $3000-$6000
