Provided for your consideration in this lot is a 19th century roe deer mount from Schloss Eckartsau. Eckartsau was a favorite hunting lodge (schloss) of the Habsburg royal family, and was maintained under the House of Habsburg-Lorraine from 1760 until the Imperial family was exiled to Switzerland in 1919. Prominent Habsburg residents include Francis Stephan von Lothringen - Husband to Habsburg's sole female ruler, Maria Theresa, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and Austria's last Imperial couple Charles I of Austria, and Princess Zita of Bourbon-Parma. It was commonplace at Schloss Eckartsau to invite distinguished guest for a hunt with the emperor, and to label the mount with the name of the dignitary which took the animal. The mount shows good condition, and is mounted to a contemporary bronze plaque. The mount measures 6 3/4" wide, 4 7/8" deep, and 13" tall.
