Manufactured in 1890. Single brass bead sight on the matte solid rib marked with the one line address at the breech end. Brown Damascus barrels, the receiver and upper tang are casehardened and the trigger guard and breech lever are blued. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured fancy grade checkered walnut with a varnish finish. The forearm tip has a horn insert and the stock has a black checkered hard rubber buttplate with the embossed Rampant Colt trademark in a circle and silver initial oval. The underside of the receiver is engraved "PATENTED/AUG 22, SEP 19, 1882". The serial number "5239" is engraved on the lower tang and the matching serial number is marked on the inside of the forearm, stamped on the forearm latch, the barrel flat and water table. The receiver, trigger guard, upper and lower tang and breech lever are engraved with finely executed borders of scalloped and double line borders. The Colt Model 1883 Double-Barrel Hammerless Shotgun is considered by experts to be one of the finest made of all Colt products and one of the very finest American shotguns. Length of pull is 14 inches.

Condition: Excellent. The shotgun retains 95% of the original Damascus and casehardened finish. The blue on the barrel has faded to an extremely attractive silver-brown patina and the Damascus pattern is strong. The receiver and forearm latch retain 95% original vivid case colors. The remaining parts retain 98% of the original high polish blue finish. The wood is also excellent with most of the varnish remaining showing some minor dings and handling marks, with sharp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear and crisp. The action is tight. This is an excellent example of a Colt Model 1883 Double-Barrel Hammerless Shotgun.
