This is a "bcd" code G43 rifle that was manufactured by Gustloff-Werke. These rifles were the first true production G43 rifles and it is estimated that only approximately 40,000 of this type were produced. These rifles are characterized by having the Type 1 cosmetically milled receiver, that is marked on the left side with a partially visible Waffenamt firing proof, next to "bcd" the wartime code for Gustloff-Werke factory in Weimer, then the serial number "1779b" and the "G43" marking, followed by a Nazi firing proof. It has the early Type 1 bolt carrier that has more of the round configuration similar to the G41 rifles, without the reinforcing web on top, that has the solid cocking knob on the left side and the bolt hold open latch on the right side. The action housing is the correct stamped version with the automatic dust cover and the right rear side of the receiver has the integral scope mounting rail. The rifle has the early style barrel with the threaded muzzle nut. This rifle has the standard front sight and military tangent rear sight that is graduated from 100-1200 meters. It is fitted with a laminated stock and hand guard that has a cupped sheet metal buttplate. The left side of the buttstock has two Waffenamt proofs below the sling slot, with a single proof in the pistol grip area with the rifle serial number on the underside of the stock. The rifle is complete with one post-war Danish made magazine and a brown commercial leather sling.
BBL: 23 1/2 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 1779b
Condition: Excellent with 95% of the original wartime blue finish remaining, showing wear on the trigger guard and action cover. The stock and handguard have both been sanded and stained a dark brown and the proofs are faint. There is a repaired horizontal crack running down the left side of the laminated stock to the rear of the receiver, which is then visible again directly behind the sling slot. The leather sling is very good and it is missing the front sight cover and cleaning rod.
