This is a scarce example of a WWII production P.08 Luger that the components were manufactured by the Mauser factory with the desirable "41/42" code markings along with the Luftwaffe acceptance proofs. It is speculated that these "ku" marked P.08 Lugers were actually a very late 1944 order for the Luftwaffe that was assembled by the Krieghoff factory using left over, or substandard P.08 Luger parts from the Mauser factory. It is estimated that a total quantity of 5,000 were produced in three different groups with this serial number range and markings in the second group. This example has the "41" date on top of the chamber area with "42" the wartime code for the Mauser factory on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension has the small "ku" proof added in front of the serial number (2861). This example has standard markings and military serial number placement, to include the full serial number (2861) stamped on the frame and barrel extension only with the last two digits of the serial number (61) stamped on the various small parts. The barrel is an unnumbered/unmarked factory replacement with left side being stamped with a "Krieghoff Eagle" over the "LA" Luftwaffe acceptance proof. The back side of each grip panel is also stamped with a larger style matching serial number, (2861). This Luger is complete with two late type 4 Army magazines with the "fxo/Eagle 37/P08" marked magazine body with the pinned black plastic bases, each stamped with the serial number and no other proofs. Also the side plate has the matching (61) number with a small "42" Mauser inspector reproof below that. This probably indicated the part was out of tolerance and was reinspected and approved by a Mauser factory inspector during assembly. This lot is complete with an original black leather Luger holster. The back side is marked "bmd/42".
