This is an example of a early "P" code series commercial contract Luger that has the desirable Krieghoff "Side Frame Inscription" markings. This serial number falls within the early "P" code series 1 Lugers except this example is basically void of almost all part serial numbers. These Lugers are described on page 190 and 191 of Gibson's book on Krieghoff Lugers. It is estimated that approximately 1000 of these "P" code commercial Lugers with the side inscription were produced. This specific pistol as noted has only the full serial number "P785" on the front of the frame with no other serial numbers on any of the parts. The left side of the barrel extension has only a small "LWaA" 1944 pattern acceptance/inspection and the right side of the breech block and back side of the side plate both have a small LWa /2 firing proof. As noted, this specific pistol has the side frame markings in three lines, that consist of "Heinrich Krieghoff/Waffenfabrik/Suhl". It is fitted with a set of the unmarked brown plastic grips with the coarse checkering with the smooth border. The pistol is complete with one blued magazine with the milled magazine body and the late Army type four pinned aluminum base with no markings on either one.
