Scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Hoffer-Thompson Gallery Practice bolt action rifle, .22 cal., 24” S.A. barrel dated 5-17, military finish, wood stock, early tan woven sling, #439209 in overall very good condition showing considerable muted military finish, good bore, crisp action, sharp markings and very good wood stock with scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage; no circle P proof which is correct with this variation and 2 inspector cartouches on the left side of the stock above the trigger group, one appearing to be POD D, the other G.A.W. The ’03 Practice Rifle differed from the standard Model in that the barrel was bored and rifled to .22 caliber, the mainspring shortened and the breech was chambered for the Hoffer-Thompson cartridge holder; the Springfield Armory produced only approx. 15,525 of these rifles between 1907 and 1918.
