Estimate: $6000 - 8000
Model 1911 Automatic Pistol manufactured by the Remington-UMC Co., in late 1918. The pistol has the dark brush blue finish that is typical of Remington-UMC pistols and checkered walnut grips with 14 rows of checkering between the diamond screw escutcheons. The pistol has a long spur hammer with fine, border-less, checkering. The barrel is blued and has a "P" proofmark on the top of the chamber stamped perpendicular to the axis of the bore. The pistol is complete with the correct, two-tone, flat base, magazine. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the frame behind the slide stop hole; the serial number was stamped after the pistol was blued and the finish has faded around the serial numbers. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in one line ahead of the slide stop hole. A Ordnance Inspection Division eagle's head sub-inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow and a larger "eagle head/F28" inspection mark is stamped vertically above the magazine release. The "E.E.C." final inspection mark of Maj. Edmund E. Chapman is stamped on the left side of the frame mid-way between the magazine release and the slide stop cut-out. The inspection mark was stamped after the pistol was blued and the markings are burnished. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER.45" in two lines ahead of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is stamped with the three-line Colt patent marks followed by "REMINGTON/UMC" in a circle and "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT CONN. U.S.A." in three lines.

Gauge: 45 ACP
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 20016
Condition: Extremely fine. The pistol retains 85% of the original dark, brush blue, finish. The finish exhibits the flaking typical of Remington-UMC pistols. There is significant finish loss and some age discoloration on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard, on the grip strap and on the right side of the frame. The finish on the slide is nearly all present and wear is limited to a few minor scratches. The barrel retains 70% of the original blue finish on the chamber. All of the markings are crisp. The grips and grip screws are in excellent condition. The magazine retains 80-85% of the two-tone blue finish. This is a very good, original, example of a hard to find Remington-UMC Model 1911 pistol.
