Scarce U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1805 Flintlock Martial Pistol

Estimate: $8500 - 16000
The Model 1805 was manufactured circa 1806 to 1808 with a total production of about 4,096 pistols and only approximately 2,580 dated 1807 (of which this example is). This model was the first military handgun manufactured by a national armory. The pistol has a 10 1/16 inch 54 caliber smooth bore barrel made without sights and a solid iron bottom rib. The mountings are brass and it has a wooden ram rod with a swollen tip. The iron parts were finished bright. The lock plate is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1807" vertically behind the hammer with the spread winged eagle over "US" in front of the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked "770" ahead of a recessed "US" and "eagle head P", (filed down). Mounted with a full walnut stock. Comes with a small wooden plaque with "1807 Harpers Ferry" marked brass plate.
BBL: 10 1/16 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 54
Finish: bright
Grips:
Serial Number: 770
Condition: Very good in its original flintlock configuration. The barrel and under rib have a bright appearance, while the remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The brass has an aged patina. The stock is also good fine with three filled in repairs on the left flat behind the side plate, at the top rear of the flat and directly below the plate. Overall there are a few minor dings and dents. With the exception of the repaired area on the top of the left flat the flat edges remain sharp. The lock markings are clear. The action is excellent. A very nice example of a scarce and desirable U.S. Martial pistol.
