Approximately 1,002 of these carbines were manufactured as part of a government contract during the Civil War. The left side of the receiver is marked "S/E.G. LAMSON & CO./WINDSOR, VT./U.S./BALLS PATENT./JUNE 23, 1863/MAR. 15, 1864". There is a small "S" stamped on most of the components and a small "GGS" stamped on the bottom of the forearm. The left side of the receiver has a saddle ring. Blade and two leaf folding sights, cleaning rod on the right side of the forearm and smooth forearm and straight grip stock. The left wrist has a clear "GGS" cartouche.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 40% faded original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a smooth brown patina. The receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate retain 60% plus original case colors. There is some minor spotting. The wood is excellent with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
