Model 1867 Cadet Style Rifle. This rifle is very similar to the rare Springfield Armory Model 1867 Cadet Rifle and has the distinctive Model 1867 Cadet Rifle breechblock with arched cut-outs. However, the rifle lacks the special 1867 dated lock plate, trigger guard with no sling swivel and shortened stock found on the Springfield M1867 Cadet Rifle. The rifle has a 32 7/8 inch barrel secured by two spring-fastened barrel bands. The oil-finished, black walnut, stock measures approximately 13 1/2 inches from the center of the buttplate to the center of the trigger. The barrel and furniture are finished "National Armory Bright", the lock plate is color casehardened and the breechblock has a blackened finish. The lock plate is dated "1863" behind the hammer and has the Eagle and Shield motif followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" in two lines in front of it. The Model 1866 Cadet Rifle breechblock is dated "1866" and stamped with an eaglehead. An eaglehead inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the barrel at the breech. There are no Ordnance final inspection or sub-inspection marks stamped on the left stock flat. This is a good representation of the rare Springfield Model 1867 Cadet Rifle.
BBL: 32 7/8 inch
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 50-70 U.S. Govt
Finish: bright
Grips:
Serial Number: nsn
Condition: Excellent. The barrel and the "National Army Bright" components retain most of the original polish. The case colors on the lock plate and hammer are vivid. The lock plate retains more than 90% of the blackened finish. Most of the blue finish is present on the rear sight. The stock is in excellent condition with sharp edges and shows minimal handling wear. This is an excellent representation of the almost non-existent Springfield Model 1867 Cadet Style Rifle that would look good in any advanced U.S. Martial Arms collection.
